Advice | Let's Talk About Social Media

Isobel Celine

Social Media...Everyone has their own opinion on how it makes us feel. Some people may love it or hate it. For me it's a love hate relationship. Especially when it comes to Instagram. That constant pressure of needing to post every so often. I tend to post 3 times a day on weekdays, and every 3 hours during days off or the weekend. This may sound extremely silly to you, but it's like my brain is constantly checking the clock, as if to say, you need to get this done by this time. I feel constantly under pressure all the time. No matter where I am. No matter whether I'm on my phone or laptop etc. I always feel pressure to get things done. Mainly including my blog. Constantly trying to share my URL link, posting a picture on Instagram, tweeting whatever it is I may be tweeting about, snapchatting about my blog, or what I've recently bought or what I'm doing etc. Older people won't/don't understand our generation these days. It's a hell of a lot different to when they were younger. All these gadgets, social media sites, the constant set back you might get as to when you lose followers through lack of inactivity or whether they just chose to unfollow you.

I am constantly checking my followers to see if I've gained or lost some. I'm pretty sure most of us question as to why we get unfollowed for no reason at all, even if it's someone you know, it makes you feel slightly worried as to why they suddenly decided to unfollow you. This sounds absolutely ridiculous to some people I've spoken to about it, but it's because they aren't part of the social media side.. At the end of the day, if someone unfollows us, it shouldn't really matter to us, social media shouldn't run our life, as in reality, social media means nothing, it's just another way of communicating with people. The amount of followers you have does not mean you are a better or less off person. It's just a case of people showing an interest in what you do with your time. We shouldn't judge ourselves over silly things like this either. I check my favourite Instagram accounts daily, but it's only because I admire what they do. I don't let myself become jealous of their achievements or what they are doing with their lives, as we can achieve goals like them just as well as they can. You just have to have the courage, will power and the right mindset to get yourself where you want to be in life.

One of my favourite bloggers named The Equinox Fashion actually inspired me to write this post, as I have a huge opinion about social media, as I have explained throughout this post. Social media can make me feel pressured, depressed, happy, inspired. It can bring me so many different emotions that can be positive and negative. I try to be as positive and happy as I can be in life with it being in reality or within social media. I try not to let social media rule my life, but blogging is such a big part of my life now, that I could not see my life without it. I love the connections I made with all these amazing people through social media, which I am extremely thankful for. I become inspired by others through social media and especially through reading a lot of different bloggers blogs too.

What I have learnt from my time reflecting on how I actually feel about social media, is to not let myself feel pressured to post so regularly, go on it when I feel like it, not when I feel pressured to post something when I don't even feel like posting. I want to focus on the more important things in life, like spending more time with family and friends, travel even more than I have been, planning days out with my favourite people and just appreciate what I have in life and also make time for myself as I  rarely do that anymore because my life revolves around work & blogging. I can't deny that I am a serious workaholic...

  2. Awww girl! I think you need to find that balance on the online world, as I used to feel like that. I think I have met a lot of people who only follow me and unfollow me after I follow them (in 1 day) Or even unfollow me for no reasons. However, if we keep asking why they do this? Why they unfollow us? Then it will never end. Find a peace of mind to use Instagram is the greatest choice for me right now. I used to post every day (maybe less than you) but now sometimes every other day because I can't be bothered and after everything that has happened to my life right now. I just feel like those followers shouldn't impact on how I live anymore. The more I keep checking how many others have had the followers, the more I go crazy because of the tension. Just go with the flow and keep it at your own speed, eventually it will work out :)

    1. Thank you for leaving your opinion on this Gial, I really appreciate it! I've definitely been keeping that sort of thing in mind lately, as at the end of the day, followers don't really affect your life. Thanks again Gail! :D
